This was good, I used walnuts instead of pecans. The topping was so tasty and the cake wasnt too sweet. I will make it again as my husband "don't lose this recipe."

This was GREAT! Especially while it was still warm. The directions were perfect down to the last detail, and I will definately make this often. I will maybe add some raisens or bits of apple next time. Thanks again for a great recipe!
This brought back memories of childhood. It was wonderful. I used butter instead of shortening and used sugar substitute for half of the sugar. No one would have every known. Thanks for sharing this great recipe.
A still warm-from-the-oven piece of this cake is just heavenly!! My version of the recipe is almost the same as Maw Maw's. The shortening can be replaced with margarine, then I like to add 1 tsp. nutmeg to the cake batter and 1/4 cup white sugar to the topping ingredients. Thanks Kim for posting one of my all-time favorite recipes!
