Mary Ellen's Pasties

READY IN: 1hr 45mins

From my aunt who has made these off and on for decades to be served in local Michigan restaurants. The directions she gave me did not include measures for the veggies so I have guessed at those. You could adjust the proportions to your taste. I am also not sure how many this recipe should make but I tried it and had enough crust for 4 large ones. (I know Aunt Mary makes them big.) Unfortunately, I didn't measure the other ingredients and just kept making batches of crust until I ran out of filling. I do think they might benefit from the addition of even a simple seasoning like salt and pepper.

i have been making my DH grandmas recipe for pasties for years and they are a huge family favorite. Mine are are simialr but we use carrot instead of rutabaga (always thought of triyng with Rutabag but my family would mutiny!). Instead of cubed we grind vegs in old fasioned meat grinder and use celery salt for seasoning. DO NOT use off brand celery salt as it will be to salty before you get the celery taste. THis is comfort food for us at its best. Serve with Kethcup! NOTE: I cook the meat and add vegs. They only take about 20-25 minutes to bake.
