Martha Washington Candy

"Paraffin wax (Gulf Wax) is a food-grade, indigestible wax used commonly in the past to seal jams/jellies. These days, it's used to help chocolate to be easily handled. If you'd prefer not to use that ingredient, substitute chocolate-flavored bark (confectioner's candy coating) for the chocolate/wax mixture."

  1. How do firm up my candy before covering with chocolate

  2. My Aunt made these for Christmas since I was about 10 years old (48 years ago)! I began making them for my family, and have passed the recipe on to MANY women. I have arthritis and can't stir. Could I make this candy using my Kitchenaide mixer?

  2. This is fabulous!!! My BF has been telling me about these candies that his Grandma made when he was a kid. Recipe lost, family has been without them for thirty years...til now!!! I am making a huge batch of these for his family for Xmas -- it will be the first time I'm meeting most of them, so you just helped me score major bonus points with them!!! Thanks so much - BF says they are PERFECT!!!!

  3. I've never made this candy before and after making it, I feel like I can do anything. The end result is very impressive and it tasted great too.

  4. I made this candy years ago and didn't take time to find my recipe so found this one but when I started mixing it up, I found that I would like to see a video of the person mixing this recipe. I see noooo way for 8 ounces of condensed milk to wet all these ingredients enough to roll them out. I called my sister whom I had given the recipe to years ago and it called for a 14 ounce can which I barely got mixed enough to roll. I really think that can of condensed milk used to be 15 ounces but I did get them rolled out with the 14 oz.

  5. These are just the best real old fashioned candies! I make them with almond extract, pecans and maraschino cherries, for Christmas every year. These are so easy to make and taste just amazing! Thanks so much for posting.
