Unique recipe, inherited from my in-laws. Originated on pasta package. Interesting combination of ingredients. Very nice picnic salad. Quick and easy.
- 16 ounces salad macaroni
- 1 1⁄2 cups mayonnaise
- 1⁄2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 (8 ounce) jar sweet pickle relish
- 1 1⁄2 cups celery, chopped
- 1⁄2 cup onion, minced
- 1 can olive, chopped
- salt and pepper
- Boil macaroni to al dente (per pkg directions).
- Rinse with cold water and set aside to dry.
- Combine mayo, marinara, relish, celery, onion and olives.
- Add macaroni to mixture.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Refrigerate 3-4 hours.
Great salad and very different. I upped the chili powder to 1 teaspoon. I found the marinara and sweet pickles a good combination of flavors. Very zesty and full of crunch. I served it over Memorial Day and my family/friends all thought it was delicious too. Thanks joathome.
This sounded so good, and a nice change from the usual pasta salad. However, it just didn't do it for us. It was like cold chef-boyardee with mayo. Left-overs stayed left over until health concerns decreed it was time for the dispose-all. Obviously others found it great so just know that it doesn't suit all taste-buds.
This was easy to make and quite tasty. A nice change to a traditional macaroni salad. I didn't have any chili powder, so I used cayenne pepper instead. I think I used too little, though (I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spicy food), because I didn't really taste it. Next time I'll try it as directed. Thanks, Jo!
