My five-year-old great-grand loves Duncan Hines mug cakes because he can make them himself (with my supervision). They have frosting and chocolate chips. We made the last one in the box of four so I am looking for a recipe that will give a similar result. It does not have to suit adult taste but it must be similar to the old "Easy Bake". Would this be a suitable recipe?

For a quicker option, just mix 1 box of angel food cake mix together with 1 box of cake mix of your choice (strawberry is good, or devil's food works for a good vs evil kinda thing). Store in an air-tight canister. When you you are ready to make a cup, use 1/3 cup of the mix along with 3 tbsp water. Stir and microwave for 50 seconds. Yummy!

I am posting this as my 13 year old whips up this receipe. This is her specialty chocolate cake for two. She makes this and serves it on a plate drizzled with warm hot fudge topping on top and some powdered sugar. She tops this off with 2 glasses of cold milk and two forks and we have some great mother daughter time!

I had high hopes for this but unfortunately it really sucked. The texture is odd, but i could easily get past that if it tasted good. It doesnt necessarily taste BAD, its more like it tastes nothing. Not enough chocolatey goodness.<br/> I think that if there were changes made it could potentially be good. I am going to try adding more sugar and some chocolate chips to sweeten it up. Also, I cooked it for the full 3 minutes, and I think I will just do 2.5 minutes next time, to keep it from being rubbery.

You are right Zurie the reviews are all over the board on this one. It is a quick and easy last minute sweet that is ok but not great. I made using whole wheat and cutting the milk a bit as suggested by another reviewer, also used dark cocoa and increased the sugar just a smidge as we like things sweet and several reviewers stated it was not sweet enough, topped with some chocolate chips instead of powdered sugar. This made a full ten ounce dessert that was more than enough for DH and I to share. Thanks for the post.

This little cake is pretty good. It was definitely worth trying out once, but probably won't make it again unless I was making it with and for kids. I added a handful of semi sweet chips and used buttermilk and coconut oil instead of the milk and oil. It could benefit from some chocolate sauce to make it a bit richer, though. I cooked mine for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, closer to only 2 minutes would have probably made it a little more moist and fudgey. I used an over-sized tea mug and this recipe filled it up all the way to the top, perhaps those with standard mugs might want to split this recipe between two mugs. Overall, give it a try if you're looking for a quick chocolate fix.

This was quite good, and most definitely did it's job, topped with some reddi-whip, when I had a late night craving for something chocolate and sweet, but it was too late to start a baking project. I did find it just a tad bitter, and I think next time (and I will make this again) I might try using dutch process instead of baking cocoa for a smoother flavor. I think that would make it perfect.

This works out beautifully. The best part has to be the look you get when someone is complaining that they want cake. You can disappear and reappear 5 minutes laster and go "here"! and try not to laugh at the reaction LOL. I substituted 1tbsp of milk with irish cream. I find we like it better with 1 or 2 tbsp of choclate chips thrown in also. And don't forget frosting or hot choclate sauce of some kind to really make it dessert!
