My mom got this recipe from Mabel, the cook for the family in Baltimore where my mom was the governess in the late 1930's - early 1940's. These were a staple every Christmas when I was a child. Cooking time is approximate for each tray; rolls of dough can be kept in fridge for a week or so.

  1. Cream fats and sugars.
  2. Add eggs.
  3. Sift dry ingredients and gradually add to sugar mixture.
  4. Stir in nuts.
  5. Form dough into rolls about 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter, roll in wax paper.
  6. Chill several hours or overnight.
  7. Slice into 1/4 inch rounds, bake at 400 degrees until browned. (It depends on your oven and how thick your slices are.).
