M & M Dream Bars

"These are yummy! The original recipe called for red and green Christmas M&Ms, but I see no reason to relegate this delicious treat to just the holidays. :)"

directions

  • Combine oatmeal, brown sugar, flour, coconut, baking soda, and salt; add melted butter and stir until moist (the mixture will be crumbly). Reserve 1 1/2 cups and press remaining crumbs into a greased 13X9-inch baking pan (I line the pan with non-stick foil.).
  • Bake 12 minutes at 375°F.
  • Combine milk and peanut butter; carefully spread over baked crust. Sprinkle on M&M's and chocolate chips. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over chocolate pieces and lightly press crumbs down.
  • Bake 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting.

  1. I think I munched on M&M's a little too much when I was making these because I was all chocolated out when I finally got these bars cooled and cut! But the next day I had some again, and boy were they good! I did leave the coconut out, and I cut them small too because they are very rich. I like some of the other options I've read in the comments like using double M&M's/no chips, or peanut butter chips - yum!

  2. I made these just as directed and they turned out so good! I had to give some away so that I wouldn't eat the whole pan. All the textures and flavors were spot on!

  3. These were all right. Made just as recipe said, but did melt the PB. A bit dry in my opinion. They were fairly easy to make. Everyone who had them thought they were OK. Not over the top wonderful.

  4. These are soooo good! I didn't change a thing and they were fantastic! Gooey and rich and yummy.

  5. These bars are really great! I love the peanut butter layer and the M&M's. There will definitely be a repeat of this one.

Tweaks

  1. I went on a Granola Bar making spree.....these seemed a little to sinful to be considered healthy so I beefed them up with hemp hearts and crushed nuts. I also substituted the peanut butter with almond butter and added a little applesauce to the mix. Still don't think these were too healthy but they were AMAZING!

  2. These were delicious!! I am a big peanut butter fan so I think I will substitute peanut butter chips for the chocolate chips next time I make them (since you already have the chocolate in the M&M's) They are definitely a keeper!! Thanks for sharing.
