Low Fat Grilled Cheese

"This is just a classic grilled cheese-no flavor alterations, but I was able to make it much healthier by making a few substitutions. Some of the ingredients won't register, but the total calorie count is about 150, 3 grams of fat, and 10 grams of carbohydrates."

  • 2 slices pepperedge farm light wheat bread
  • 2 tablespoons smart balance butter substitute
  • 14 cup fat-free cheddar cheese

  • Use the smart balance to butter both sides of the bread. More or less than 2 tablespoons may be needed.
  • Heat a pan up to medium heat.
  • While the pan is heating, sandwich the cheese between the bread.
  • Place sandwich in the pan and cook each side until it is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Eat and enjoy!

I grew up in a small town, where I remain to this day. My cooking career began with an easy bake oven and it was all uphill from there. Now with a family of my own, I find myself having to modify old recipes and create new ones to satisfy the family's "colorful" tastes.
