"Mom got this recipe from somewhere a long time ago and passed it on to me. Just multiply the amounts according to how much fish that you have to fry."

Questions & Replies

  1. How do you make the crumbles? I always ordered extra crumbles with my fish.

  2. I doubled this recipe and it was just enough for 3 lbs of cod cut into fairly small pieces. It's good as is, but I need to try the onion powder and paprika additions as suggested for it to taste like LJS.

  3. what temperature do you fry it at?

  4. I want to know how to make this fish in an air fryer xl can you please help?

  5. temp for deep frying fish batter

  1. This batter was excellent! A must-try the next time you want something fried with a very crisp, not too thick coating. Excellent taste as well. I did some chicken tenders, then some fresh flounder fillets, then some shrimp. It was all incredible! Next time I will make some hush puppies, and it will be just like eating at the restaurant! Thanks for posting. :)

  2. I made this batter for fish, turned out really good, nice and crunchy. I did not deep fry the fish, I shallow fried and was surprised the batter stayed on the fish. Excellent!!

  3. I thought the batter was terrific. I used it on scallops, chiken and Fish. They all turned out excellent. My family really enjoyed it.

  4. Fantastic. Easy to make, and the batter stay on.

  5. You people obviously never ate at Long John Silver's. This recipe is NOTHING like theirs. They also use corn flour in their batter. It's also missing a spice that I can't seem to figure out.

Tweaks

  1. If you wish true Long John Silver's batter then you need to add corn flour, paprika, garlic and onion powders. Bay Seasoning will cover most of it but the batter does need corn flour. The Long John Silver's website confirms the ingredients.
