Loco Moco Maui Style

"I must admit-this looks & sounds disgusting!! My husband "discovered" this while on vacation in Maui & has since learned it is a huge local tradition all over the islands. This is the recipe he found in a local cookbook before we left. I haven't tried it myself-but he LOVE, LOVE, LOVES it & swears I would too if I did. The cookbook described it as a delicious heart-attack on a plate...yikes!"

  1. This was quite good... much better than I expected. I was playing café world on fb and my kids noticed a meal called Loco Moco and asked me to make it... So here I sit typing a review...<br/>I used homemade hamburger patties, white rice, farm fresh eggs and gravy. It was very filling and very good. Something I will make again, thank you for posting : )

  2. Now THIS is our loco moco as it is served all over Hawaii. I make this with homemade patties not the frozen kind...makes a big difference in flavor. Thank you for sharing and bringing back memories.

  3. Great Hawaiian comfort food. Like one of the others posted, I first saw this on Cafe World and after a year decided to try it. I'm glad I did. It does not sound right but it tastes fantastic! My picky 8 year old daughter LOVED it! It is filling and satisfying.

  4. I 'm a born & raised Maui girl & this is local comfort food. If you think this is bad... my hungry hawaiian DH loves this best over fried rice! Most restaurants back home will offer it that way! There are many variations now but this is the original. Homemade patties & gravy make a huge difference.

  5. HAHAHAHA I loved this. It is so filling..real comfort food. Thanks for sharing Meredith!
