This is from the La Leche League International Cookbook. When I am in a rush I just cut them into squares so I don't have to roll them out more than once. When the mood hits I will use whatever cookie cutters strike my fancy...my daughters love when I do that. I enjoy experimenting with adding different herbs, spices and spice mixes. Here's how I got my daughters to eat salmon salad sandwiches (once thought to be an impossible task!). I added Lemon Mrs. Dash and dry dill to the biscuit mix, then cut them out with an angel cookie cutter. I filled the cooked biscuits with a salmon and mayonnaise mixture and called them "Flying Pink Angel Sandwiches". They are now a favourite!
- Stir liquid into Mix just until moistened.
- Knead a few times on floured board.
- Roll or pat out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into biscuits.
- Bake at 450 for 7-10 min, until golden on bottom.
These biscuits actually rose (unlike other recipes I've tried), though the unbleached white flour version of the mix (versus half white wheat flour) had a better rise.
Great biscuits and very fast to make! I made mine with lemon pepper and cheddar cheese. The kids really liked these! Thanks for posting!
I halved this recipe and made biscuits to top a casserole. I used water (I was out of milk). Wonderful, light, fluffy and flavourful! I couldn't get enough of them! I considered making another batch up right away! This is going to replace my normal Bisquick biscuits from now on! Thanks so much for posting!
