This was the best salad! I made it for 2 as a meal and changed a couple things. I made 1/3 of the Buttermilk and Mayo Mixture and 1/4 cup of Blue Cheese 1/8 tsp Seasoning for the dressing. Left all the veg the same and it was more than enough dressing for us. Also I Chopped the Salad to mix the dressing in. I Grilled a small Filet steak and sliced that for the top. Only used one bacon slice per person and 2 Tbsp Pecans and Blue Cheese per person. Also I made the Sweet Balsamic Glaze to drizzle on top; 1/2 Cup Balsamic and 2 Tbsp Brown sugar boil on the stove just until it coats the back of spoon. (This will be enough for many salads.)
Thank you so much for posting! :)

Loved it! I made the salad and the dressing last week following the recipe exactly. A wonderful combination of flavours! Tonight I am making just the dressing for a steak salad - this is now my 'go to' blue cheese salad dressing. Thanks so much for sharing.

To make this salad even more like the Wedge Salad at Outback, add a sweet balsamic glaze before the blue cheese dressing. It makes it even better!!! Also, they use candied pecans. Delicious!!!! XOXOXO

Delicious! The only change I made was to use onion salt instead of onion powder but we like salt! I used the mild brand Buttermilk Blue Cheese (purchased at Wegman's) and it was perfect. I now have my go to dressing and blue cheese cheese.

So...I simply ADORE the blue cheese wedge salad from Outback Steakhouse. It's my favorite! I made this tonight and OMIGOODNESS. It's so YUMMY. I didn't use the pecans. The dressing is SUPURB! I think I found my new salad and dressing!!!

Wonderful! Personally I would omit the bacon (but I never have been a fan of meat in salads--so it is a personal problem). The dressing is superb.

I just posted the above comment (I added a usesr name!) and I forgot to add that I had forgotten the buttermilk (I never buy it) and didn't have time to run to the store. I googled a substitution and tried one that called for one cup of warm milk and 1.75 tsp of cream of tarter. Viola! It worked just fine! I didn't realize that you could make your own buttermilk! It is true that you do learn something new everyday!

This is an excellent salad and I just love the idea of the wedge. So fresh and delicious! The nuts with the blue cheese just put it over the top for us! We will have this often with a few cheese and nut variations.

I made this tonight to go with my husband's wonderful grilled steaks and we loved it. I made the dressing exactly the way it is listed here and since we were pushed for time. I covered it and placed it in my freezer for about 20 minutes. It was perfect. I substitued regular hot house tomatoes, chopped for the grape tomatoes and omitted the red onions and pecans because I didn't have any. To down size the portion, I cut the wedge in half and divided between us. We loved it and will definately do this again. Thank you for sharing this with us!

I enjoyed this salad however; everyone else in the family passed me their salad wedges. They do not like onion in their salad, so I omitted the chopped red onion from their salads however; I didn't take into consideration the onion powder in the dressing as I didn't think it would be that noticeable. I was wrong, everyone was still able to taste onion. They also felt the dressing was too thin. I will continue to make this for myself however once summer gets here.

Yummy yum to the tum tum! We loved this salad and the dressing couldn't be better. I loved cutting down through the wedge, it was so nice and crisp and with the other things in the salad it sure is one I will remember to make again! Loved the nuts and blue cheese combo. Love love loved it! Thank you!

What a luscious salad! The dressing alone is awesome and the combination of pecans and blue cheese topped it off. In spite of the featured appearance of the wedge, I think I'd go ahead and shred the lettuce next time; the flavors would be the same and it would be easier to eat. (Also, I added black olives to mine and might suggest hardboiled egg which would make it almost a Cobb salad.) It did seem to me to be about enough toppings for four wedges, needing only a little extra cheese to double the listed number of servings; your mileage may vary. In summary: Really nice salad with room for personalization! Made for AZ/NZ tag Feb. 2009.

After posting this as a "fine dining" recipe in Celebrity Cooks (30.1.09) I so liked the look of it, that I went off to get buttermilk and iceberg lettuce. My goodness, what a totally delicious salad this is!!! Please do not use low-fat mayo or buttermilk. Use the ingredients as nature made it (or maybe man!!) The dressing is over-the top delicious: I made it a few hours ahead so the flavours could meld. It is a little too much dressing for 2 people, but I saved the rest. The dressing will also be awesome on a potato salad. Do NOT leave out the pecans!! I roasted mine in a small skillet. But be warned: this is a meal in itself!! I made it as a starter to a very lowfat meal, and even so I could not finish my meal of steamed fish and veggies! This would be absolutely ideal for a lunch (by itself) in summer, with chilled wine. A great recipe!!

I made this awhile back and forgot to post the pic and do the review. Guess I'm getting old :) The salad was excellent! The only thing I might do next time is add a little sugar to the dressing, to add just a slight sweetness to it. I had a wedge at the Lone Star, and I am trying to get that flavor, because it was above any I have ever had, not that I don't love them all! I didn't add the bacon or nuts this time, but I bet they are good! I will try them next time I make one. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us Emily!
