I used vegetable stock, and a can of tomatoes with tomato paste and herbs, (as that was what I had on hand). I also threw in a splash of red wine. REALLY good, will be keeping this recipe for the future. I am definitely going to give some more of your recipes a go.
This recipe was very easy to make. And very delicious. I served it with whole wheat pasta.
We loved this! I will definitely make this again and share the recipe with others. I like that it has a good amount of protein in it. What really bothers me about pasta and sauce is that it's all carbs, for those of us that don't eat a lot of meat it's not really balanced. We used one very large onion, doubled the garlic, perhaps cooked that bit longer than 5 minutes before adding the lentils. We used dry beef stock mix that already had sodium so we didn't add any additional salt. We tripled the oregano (at least) and used healthy pinch of cayenne. After we were done we were thinking we should have eaten the green beans we cooked as a side first, because after eating it we did not feel like eating green beans. Well, we solved that by putting the sauce on the beans and it was wonderful that way too!!
I used veggie broth and added a can of diced tomatoes with juice. Other than that, recipe was made as written and was fantastic, with a good balance of lentils and tomato taste. Yum!
Awesome! I used a vegan "beef" broth that worked wonderfully, and added a tsp of herbes de province. Yum, yum, yum.
Very tasty - I used beef broth which I think added a lot of lovely flavour! My lentils didn't mushify quite as much as I would have liked though: I think I cooked them over too high a heat and thus should have used more liquid. My bad! Great healthy recipe, thank you for sharing!
Thank you for a delicious quick supper. My husband and 2 year old refuse to eat ground beef but me and my 1 year old love spaghetti. Everyone devoured this. The only change I made was to use tinned tomatoes and a little puree as I didn't have enough puree. It must be good because my husband has offered to cook it on his night!
I'm having a hard time rating this recipe. I LOVE how healthy it is, but as written, I thought it turned out really bland. I needed doctor it up to get it to the point where I could serve it to my DH. I added a little balsamic vinegar to brighten it up, basil and Italian sausage seasoning for flavor. I went ahead and whirled it in the food processor to make it smooth. Now I can love the flavor AND how healthy it is. Oh...and I love that it was so simple to make. This was my experience and maybe it was the tomato paste or the veggie stock that I used that didn't measure up some how. I'm just thrilled that it all worked out in the end. Thanks for posting the recipe. I'll be making versions of this again.
Delicious - protein pasta! I used veggie broth and added a fresh diced tomato. I rarely find this to be true but the seasoning on this was perfect!
It was great once I spiced it up with some creole seasoning.
