Get a great lemon, poppy seed bread right from your bread machine! Note: Use butter OR oil and lemon zest OR lemon oil, not both. Thanks to Annacia for catching my goof. I looked at the notes and the original recipe calls for 3 tablespoons of poppy seeds, which I have added to the ingredient list below.
- 1 cup lemon yogurt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter or 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons finely grated lemon rind or 2 teaspoons lemon extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 4 tablespoons dry buttermilk
- 3 1⁄2 cups unbleached white flour
- 3 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- Place all ingredients in the machine. Program for Bread, Sweet, or Basic White Bread, and press start.
This is a great sweet bread! I took Annacia's advise and used oil instead of butter and I used splenda for 2tbs and sugar for the last. I also used half bread flour and half wheat. I did end up having to add about an 1/8cup of water probably because of the wheat flour but it turned out lovely! DH and DD loved it!
Made for Easter Egg tag Event. This was a lovely bread...I need to practice my braiding technique...definitely no reflection on the recipe poster...lol I added lemon zest and I really liked the flavour.
This recipe is very simply spectacular! It makes a dough that is pure heaven to work with. I started with plain fat free yogurt so I added a extra tsp of lemon extract and as the amount of poppyseed isn't mentioned in the ingredient list *wink* I put in 1 1/2 Tbsp for an amount that I liked. I used canola oil as it's a healthier fat than butter and used 1/2 a cup of egg white instead of whole eggs and Splenda for the sugar. This is destined for tomorrow's Easter table so I havent sampled the baked loaf but if the dough is anything to go by it's wonderful! A light but clear lemon flavor with a perfect sweetness. This is truly a 5 star recipe. Thanks you so much for posting it Jan. Made for Photo Tag.
