Lemon Cutting Board Cleaner

"This easy cleaner helps keep wooden cutting boards freshened and sanitized. The lemon and essential oil sanitize the board while the abrasive action of the salt cleans it. If you use your cutting board for raw meat, get into the habit of doing this after each use. Never use the same cutting board for fresh fruits and vegetables as is used for raw meat."

  1. This worked great. I didn't realize you could use tea tree oil on eating surfaces. I will use this more often. Thanks.

  2. My mom had taught me that little trick years back. Works like a charm!

  3. Good idea, can't wait to try this! :) Back to give a rating. I just tried this because I had used a lemon and lime from another recipe, and wanted to find something useful to do with the rest. (I used your lemon scrub for my hands too to use up leftover lime and lemon juice), and used the leftover rinds of the lemon for this. I have two cutting boards, one is glass? the other I'm not sure about. I used lemon and tea tree essential oil, table salt, and the lemon rind as directed. This was kind of fun, a bit messy though, so I had to do it over the sink, then I lost a lot of the salt mixture. I'm not sure how well this worked. One of the cutting boards smells strongly of onion and garlic and was hoping this would get rid of it, but it didn't really. I do feel comfortable that I sanitized my boards, even if I can't tell. Anything that makes cleaning fun is a plus in my book, if it's effective and natural and easy to use, then that's more pluses. Thanks for sharing! :)

  4. I use this every time I use my cutting board... which is pretty often!!! I like to use kosher salt and like to mix up the EO's... I like lemon, lime, tea tree and sometimes pink grapefruit... this really does sanitize the board and leaves the kitchen sink smelling sweet too!

  5. I have a chopping block that really needed to be sanitized. I put a plastic chopping sheet on it for meat, so I don't worry about that, but it's good to scrub and sanitize it thoroughly every so often. The only hard part was getting it off. I can't hold it under running water. :) I just had to wipe it off a few times. Didn't use lemon oil and used several drops of tea tree. Boy, you can smell it!
