  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Cook the pasta according to package directions, drain well.
  • Fry bacon until crisp, drain on paper towels and set aside.
  • Fry onion, garlic and mushrooms in the bacon fat until onion is slightly carmalized.
  • Add the sauerkraut, soup and bay leaves to the onions and mushrooms and let the mixture simmer for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Mix the pasta, bacon and sauerkraut mixture.
  • Bake for 30 to 45 minutes uncovered, stirring a few times during baking.
  • Remove bay leaves.
  • Enjoy!

  1. Chef 249297, this definitely is lazy pierogi. The name is correct. Polish people make the dish. It's not pierogi, but lazy pierogi which means a sloppy version that's easy to make.
     
  2. This was a wonderful addition to our New Year's Eve buffet! Since we all hail from Buffalo, NY we decided to make some foods from home and this is definitely one of them. It was delicious and so simple!
     
  3. This recipe sounds good, but it is not really pierogi. It's a pasta dish so you should probably change the name to something like "Lazy Cabbage pasta bake".
