  1. Combine shortening, sugar, water, raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves and bring to a boil. let cool.
  2. combine flour, baking soda, and nuts. add to liquid mixture.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees in a greased and floured loaf pan, 50 minutes-1 hour.
  4. for a 9x13 pan, double the recipe.
