      This tasted pretty good and had sufficient depth of flavour to make this veggie version fair competition for a "true" meat cholent. However I did find that considerably more water was needed than recipe provides if using for Shabbat lunch in the winter the slow cooker for will be on for about 21 hours.

      Wow what a great recipe. I made it for a vegetarian guest who was staying over the weekend. I wasn't really looking forward to eating it because I like lumps of meat in my cholent but I have to say the lima beans (butter beans in the UK) are really meaty. The dish was a great success, many thanks!

      I know this is vegetarian, but I made it with stew meat and beef broth. I added extra salt, water and a little parsley for extra color, but it was delicious on Shabbat! Thanks for sharing : )
