I love it! I put plain yogurt and cilantro on top and it really makes it!
Easy and delicious. Provides a lot of flavour with little work. I use brown basmati rice instead of white, for extra fiber and nutrients. Since brown rice takes longer to cook than white, I skip the lentil pre-soak and pre-cook steps and simmer the whole shebang for 40 minutes.
This was a winner in our house! I reduced the rice and lentils for two of us as a side dish but forgot to reduce the spices. It was awesome! I had some leftovers I was going to save but did a midnight raid on the fridge. I regret not making the full recipe now.

Oh my goodness, the spice combo is amazing!! I didn't add salt or pepper; used 1/4 ts of ground cardamom instead of pods, and only 1 tbls butter and 1 tbls oil. I stirred in a whole bunch of cilantro, chopped, as I love the stuff. An excellent dish - thank you so much for sharing!
I did not know what to expect because I've never cooked with lentil before and wow, what a wonderful mellow taste sensation! I subbed orange lentil for green but other wise made as shown. The taste was perfect without the added salt or pepper. I really enjoyed this dish. Thank you Karen Elizabeth for posting!
This was delicious! I used ghee and left out the oil. I also used black cardamom pods, otherwise made as stated. This is so flavourful and satisfying, and the seasoning is excellent. Makes four good sized main dish servings. Yum! Thanks Karen Elizabeth!
Delish! This got an unsolicited "this stuff is good" from hubby, so that's five stars in my book. I made a couple of changes, such as leaving out the butter and using brown long grain rice. It took longer to cook for me, but that is probably due to the brown rice. The seasonings were right on and it makes a ton. I look forward to having some for lunch tomorrow. Thanks for posting.
