  • Sift together all the coating ingredients and place in a clean plastic bag. Coat each chicken piece first with the beaten egg, then with the flour mixture in the bag. Make sure you coat each piece completely with the flour.
  • Heat the oil in a skillet. Brown the chicken in oil slowly, uncovered. Once browned, cover the skillet and keeping frying on a very gentle heat until the chicken is fully cooked. Place on paper towels to drain out the excess oil.

  1. Although I wouldn't say that this tastes like KFC, it is very good in its' own right. I do not have a skillet large enough to hold all the chicken so I browned the meat in two batches and then baked at 400F for 40-45 minutes. The coating was nice and crisp and everyone enjoyed it. Thx tastetester#2.

  2. WOW! This is by far the VERY BEST fried chicken recipe I have ever tried. It's been too long since I lasted visited a KFC, so I could not tell you how close to the Colonel's recipe this comes. But it is postively fantastic and will replace my regular fried chicken recipe, hands down. The 11 spices all combine to create a wonderful tasting coating for the fried chicken. It was a big hit with my entire family. I will definitely make this often. Thanks for sharing your recipe, tastetester #2. Made for Spring 2010 Pick-A-Chef.

  3. I found the recipe to be good, but not great. I followed the ingredients to a tea (had them all), but it didn't taste anything like KFC. I think the recipe got lost in trying to find 11 herb and spices that would match the Colonel's recipe. Next time, I'll try adjusting the amounts and maybe dropping some of the spices all together.

  4. Oh my goodness, this recipe is mouthwatering. I didn't have poultry seasoning so I just added some taco seasoning, substituted marjoram for tarragon (which I didn't have either) and, to make the batter a bit more spicy, added chilli powder and some extra black pepper. Feel free to add a tad more of everything if you like the spice kick. Literally mouthwatering. Honestly, it is way better than KFC.

  5. Really good! I have not made fried chicken before and I have to say it was delicious. I did not deep fry it though, just put a little oil in the pan and also sprayed the chicken pieces. They were crisp, brown and very tasty. I am making this for my son in law who is a very avid Kfc follower so I will be interested to see if he likes it. Thanks.
