This is a great, sweet sauce for fried chicken and/or fries. The sauce is reminiscent of the mumbo sauce found in Chinese carry outs in the DC area. Enjoy! MUMBO® is a registered trademark of SELECT BRANDS LLC. www.selectbrandsllc.com/companyhistory.php
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon Hungarian paprika
- 3 tablespoons hot sauce
- 3 tablespoons water
- 4 tablespoons white vinegar
- In a mixing bowl combine all ingredients. Mix well.
- Pour into pot.
- Bring to boil using low heat. Stirring constantly.
- Let cool or serve hot.
- To enhance the flavor of the sauce, just add more of the above ingredients. DO NOT USE SALT, because it will destroy the sweetness of the sauce.
I was born and raised in the DC/MD area and now I live in SC. I grew up on chicken wings and mumbo sauce. This sauce is absolutely as close as it gets to the real thing. EXCELLENT!!!!
I've lived in DC until I attended college thirty years ago. I now live on Columbia, Maryland, but often drive back to my neighborhood carry-out just for Mumbo sauce. It's a 30 minute drive worth doing twice a year. This recipe is really close to my old neighborhood carry-out. Thanks for sharing.
I'd never had mumbo sauce before and was using another recipe that I'd found to make them, but didn't have mumbo sauce in my area...so i found this recipe, made my own and fell in love! My Mumbo wings were a hit with my fam for our Super Bowl party this year, and my son's friend keeps asking me to make them for her again as well. Thanks for sharing- 2015<br/>Still making it for the SuperBowl this year!!!!
