Made this as written except for the cheese -- we just sprinkled cheese on top for those who wanted it. This makes a lot! Good if you're stretching your food dollar like we are! Thanks for the recipe! We enjoyed it, especially my 7 year old niece!

Thanks for posting this - this recipe is so very close to the Goulash I grew up with but my mother had never written down the ingredients & proportions - the only difference is my mother never put cheese in hers and I didn't when I prepared it this week - the next time (and there will be many more) I will try it with the cheese for a change of pace.

This made for a quick and easy meal that everybody enjoyed. My changes were to use large shell macaroni in place of elbow macaroni because that's what I had available. I used a tablespoon of onion powder in place of the onion due to fussy kid's palates, such a shame. I used American cheese slices instead of the white processed cheese, again, because that's what I had on hand. I used 2 teaspoons of chopped garlic and one teaspoon of salt, but no garlic salt which worked well. This recipe could easily be kicked up a notch or two using various seasonings, chili's, salsa, etc. I added Parmesan cheese and dried chili pepper flakes to my portion, and it was very good. Others at the table mixed their whole kernel corn side dish into the goulash and really liked that. The sky's the limit with what you can do with this recipe to dress it up. thanks keen5 for sharing, this will make an encore in our home.

It grew on me after seconds. I added some Penzeys' pizza seasoning in it and it was so good. Thanks for the recipe!

I tried the recipe and it was incredible. I added some oregano and a little more salt and did not add the cheese. I grated cheddar cheese instead and had everyone add it on themselves (cheese hater, can you imagine?). It was just like the stuff I grew up with and was a huge hit with kids and adults alike. This is a keeper and I will do it again. Thanks.
