Kellie, This was exactly what I was looking for. I made these with 1 tsp of dried orange zest and topped with an icing made from lemon juice and powdered sugar (thick). Everyone loved them. Just a note to others. The dough was sticky and hard to cut after pressing it out. So, when they were done, I used a pizza cutter and recut on the lines and they came out great. Just wanted to let everyone know if they had the same problem, not to worry. Thanks again!!
This recipe is exactly what I was looking for! I made mine healthy with half wheat flour and flax meal. I also added frozen raspberries and blueberries along with white chocolate chips. They are fricking amazing! I used almond milk and flavored coffee creamer in place of milk. Amazing.
Great scones! I don't like to use shortening in my recipes, so I substituted 1/4 c. unsweetened cinnamon applesauce and 1/4 c. butter substitute ( I like Heart Smart). I put in the applesauce when I put in the milk and egg. I did have to add a little more flour, but it came out beautifully, just a little more dense than if I'd just used shortening.
I love this recipe...it is absolutely so easy to put together! Yesterday I made a cheese scone to go with stew for supper..I omitted the sugar, added 4 oz grated cheddar and 1 tsp cardamom. They were great. I had to try something sweet today, so I had 3 nectarines in the fridge, peeled & diced them and used the recipe (added the sugar) and added the fruit, 1 tsp banana extract and sprinkled sugar on the top...they are FABULOUS!!! Thanks for this...it will be a go-to for me!!
Perfect scone recipe! I used 1/2 C. butter instead of the shortening, a tablespoon (or two) of fresh squeezed lemon, and added 1/2 C. blueberry infused Crasins. They were delicious!
