This is lovely, magpie! I used Chef Kate's recipe for crock pot chickpeas (you all MUST try this!) and subbed in a big pile of kale for the spinach. It was definitely more than called for, but I admit I didn't measure. This required a bit of extra cook time and water to get the kale cooked down. I also used garam masala. Thanks for posting--this was a hit with the whole family, including the curry-loving 9 month old ;). Made for Veg Swap 35.

This is just right! I loved it as a main dish. I used cherry tomatoes as it's still too early here for good tomatoes and used canned green chilis. I did the tomato/chili/ginger mix in the food processor. I had lovely fresh farmers' market spinach and chick peas I had just made in the crockpot. I loved this and will make it again--and have fun with variations. Thanks, Diner!

We loved this recipe! It had great flavor and was easy to make. I did not have the asafetida powder or grapeseed oil and since these ingredients were optional; hopefully, it did not negatively affect the taste of the dish. We served the dish with rice and some Naan bread. Thanks for the post. Made for PAC, 2011.

Good and I think it tastes very authentic from what I have tasted in restaurants but without all the oil and a bit fresher! I know it called for fresh tomatoes but my fresh ones were not ripe enough so I used good canned plum tomatoes which was fine. I did not add the fresh green chile as we don't like very hot, neither did I add asafetida powder, I had to use cumin powder as I am out of the seeds, I used baby spinach which I still chopped, fresh ground coriander, Garam Masala - Aromatic Kashmiri Spice Blend for Spicy Cooking!, plus the rest. I think 1 tsp sea salt may be too much for some. Served with Cardamom & Coconut Pilau & Cucumber Raita which went pretty well together. Made for Veggie Swap 31 ~ February 2011.

Easy, complex taste. I made it when my BF was away because he does not like spicy. Very healthful, and I used spices in my collection that I very rarely use (asafetida, garam masala). Included some jalepeno, omitted the cilantro but of course included the coriander. I only needed 1/4 cup water. Made for Zingo Zaar World Tour VI.

This really is 'Just Right'! I made exactly as written using baby spinach and 1/2 cup of water. The balance of flavours is perfect. Don't change a thing. This will appear often on our table -- I always have the ingredients on hand. Oh, and it served two for lunch. Yum, yum, yum!

Wonderful flavor and uses two of my favorite foods - I used homemade chickpeas and spinach mixed with a bit of home grown kale. This will go into the regular cookbook and be a great addition to the weekday rotation. Made for Zingo by a Looney Spoon. ZWT6

Wow! loved this one. I can't believe I actually made it. I first had Chole when a friend made it for me for lunch. I never could have imagined it could be so easy to make. I followed Muffin Goddess and used Garam Masala. Thank you fo sharing your recipe magpie. Made for Zingo ZWT 6 by an Unruly Under the INfluence.

OH, yummy, mags! I love spinach and I love chickpeas and I'm beginning to love curry because of some of the recipes this tour. I didn't and couldn't get any asafetida powder, so used a little onion and garlic powder, after reading about it. That was the only change I made. Thnx, so much, for sharing this recipe. Made for a fellow Voracious Vagabond of ZWT 6.

Yum, so much flavor! Pretty spicy, but I'm chalking that up to a combination of my serrano chile being particularly hot, and the fact that I used ground chipotle powder for the chile powder (not quite authentic, but I love chipotle). I left out the asafoetida powder (didn't have any), and I used Garam Masala. I'm pretty sure I added extra spinach to this, because I didn't actually measure it out. I had a really enormous bag of it, so I just tossed in about 4 big handfuls. Very good, thanks for posting :)! Made for The Queens of Quisine for ZWT6 Zingo

Very good! Easy to prepare and nice flavor. Blending the sauce was a great touch too. I used the optional green chile and cilantro garnish. Thanks for sharing! ZWT6
