Juice for Dehydrated Children

I took my daughter to the doctor one day, she was sick and dehydrated. The doctor gave me this recipe for her, saying it does the same thing as pedialyte with out the expense. He also said this is what he uses when his kids are sick. Furthermore ginger ale has too much sugar. It causes other problems making children dehydrate even more. My daughter didn't mind the taste and it seamed to be soothing on her stomach. The only suggestion I'll make is to make sure the orange juice isn't really acidic. I just had to post it so I didn't lose it.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 12 cups unsweetened orange juice
  • 2 12 cups water
  • 38 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients.
  2. Keep in fridge and serve as needed.

Thanks! I have an allergy to the fluoride in our tap water & I am also diabetic. A lot of products on the market are full of additives. I like controlling what I drink & this has helped me in the past, even though I am grown :-) I have also passed it on to Mums I know.

Thanks. My son rarely gets sick, but this is a great bit of information. If I can control what is going into him I feel much better. Many products have a long list of ingrediants that are of no value to a sick child...ie corn syrup, food dyes...
