This is a great sauce. One of the best I have tried. I used half ground round and half sweet Italian sausage, added another onion because one just didn't seem enough for this much sauce for my taste. (My DH says I would put onions in ice cream if I wasn't stoped. Well, almost!)Also, I diced up half of a red bell pepper that would have spoiled if not used right away. I don't think there was enough of it to alter the taste.Used the amount of water called for and simmered about 3 1/2 hours. It was the perfect consistancy. Yummy, thanks for sharing this one.
We made this and cooked on stove four hours...out of this world!!! Used ground beef and Italian sausage. Sent the recipe to daughter at work and she sent it to four more people!! Thank you so much for sharing. This is the only spaghetti sauce I'll ever make again!!
I used 1 lb. of hot Italian sausage which I steamed first for 10 min to get rid of the excess fat and 1 lb. of ground beef.I doubled the onions and added 1/2 lb. of fresh mushrooms. I used white wine as red wine and me don't get along. The family really enjoyedit, even my fussy husband.I will definately make it again. Many thanks for sharing this great recipe.
OK, I have to admit I was originally skeptical about this one, because I was married to an Italian chef for a good long while (too long - LOL!) and this isn't the way I usually make "gravy", but this is a winner! REALLY good! I am on a crockpot craze, so I put it in my crockpot and drove everyone crazy with the aroma all day long. I used 2 lbs. of chicken sausage - still doing the low-fat thing - and I didn't add wine, just because I didn't have any handy. I'm so happy that it made a large amount, because I have a nice container in the freezer for another great dinner on a work night!
Very good; I used fresh herbs and refrained from adding peppers, celery, mushrooms...like I normally would if they were in the frig...used leftover sauce for lasagne which is also delicious. UPDATE: Made this again over the weekend; screwed it up and realized I was using the full amount of herbs even though I had started out making half the recipe...duh...but no problem, added another can of tomato sauce; can't wait to finish off the leftovers with some hot garlic bread!
Totally awesome! I have been disappointed in my efforts to make a good spaghetti sauce since I started cooking 37 years ago. My wife and I throughly enjoyed it. I will be making it again.
This makes alot of sauce!!! I wouldnt try making it without the wine--that's what gives it it's great taste. I am not usually a big fan of red sauce but this has such a mild flavor that I really enjoy it. After reading the reviews before making, I only used enough water to rinse out the little can of tomato paste. I think any more would be too runny. Next time I will try putting in more garlic than it calls for. This is a great recipe!!!
Excellent sauce!! My husband kept scraping the bottom of the pot for more!! Thanks much.
This is the best spaghetti I have had, to be so easy, in a long time. It puts the restaurants to shame. I have to agree with your kids on this one. This is truly, truly and winner for it is sooooooo goooooood. Thanx a million.
I make my own spaghetti sauce recipe and have for years, but with all the hoopla about this one, I decided to try it. It does have wonderful taste, but turned out a little too thick for my liking, even though I added all the water called for. I am going to try it again and make the following changes: use only one can of tomato sauce and one can of tomato paste and keep all other ingredients the same for full flavor. Also, I only used 1 lb of Italian sausage, but I feel it does need 2 lbs. All in all very good and Jo Mama did a great job.
