  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
  2. Grease cookie sheets.
  3. Separate egg, reserving egg white.
  4. Cream margarine, sugar, and egg yolk.
  5. Add vanilla, flour and salt, mixing well.
  6. Shape dough into balls.
  7. Roll in egg white, then nuts.
  8. Place on cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 5 minutes.
  10. Remove cookies from oven.
  11. With thumb, dent each cookie.
  12. Put jelly or preserves in each thumbprint.
  13. Bake for another 8 minutes.

I believe this recipe has a couple of mistakes in it. In a 300-degree oven, they never did bake, even after having them in a minimum of 20 minutes. When I moved the temperature to 350, they did bake, but I had to leave them in 10 - 12 minutes versus the 8 minutes in the recipe. Also, the directions call for salt but there is no salt in the ingredients. The result was just okay.

This is a very fast and simple recipe. The cookies are also very delicious! I will definetly be making more of these for the holidays!
