A quick way to turn those blah canned baked beans into something with a little more zip.
- 2 (16 ounce) cans pork and beans or 2 (16 ounce) cans vegetarian baked beans
- 1⁄2 cup barbecue sauce (more or less to taste)
- 1 teaspoon prepared mustard (more or less to taste)
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes or until desired consistency.
I make these all the time to taste. I don't measure anything. I also add diced onion, garlic, and molasses. It is good with catsup instead of BBQ as well.
This was certainly quick and easy. I used a maple baked bean and a spicy chipotle BBQ sauce so it came out a sweet and spicy combination. You can alter the final taste by using different flavored beans and BBQ sauces. This would be a good side dish to put in the oven along side a roast to continue to marry the flavors together.
Use vegetarian baked beans to make this vegan.
