This recipe is a personal favorite of mine and goes great with anything!!! ya mon! The only thing is the salt needs to go in after the bean mostly cook or else the bean not cook all the way. One more things most people I know use the panamanian pepper the equivelent here is habenero pepper. Use one or two depending on serving size and you will notice the taste difference in your meal! Buen Provecho! chao

OMG! This recipe was amazing! It even blew the in-laws away!! The only thing I changed was I added 3 scotch bonnet peppers instead of one, and left it until the dish was completely done.Super spicy but very yum!

Hobbyzu, I love this recipe. This is one of the best Jamaican rice and peas dish, I have ever made. It was soooo good. Great texture and an amazing flavor. It was so quick and easy to make, just the perfect accompaniment for the Jerk Chicken dish I served it with. I will be making this often. Thank you for sharing.

So...I had spinal surgery about 3 weeks ago and since then I can't seem to tolerate many meat dishes. This past weekend, my husband and I bought some dried black beans at a ridiculously low price and I've been searching for a recipe to use them. I also have way too many cans of coconut milk, hence my stumbling upon this recipe. Since I can't really get out to the store easily, I had to use what's on hand - and thank goodness that the recipe is forgiving enough to still taste amazing! I had to use minced garlic instead of garlic cloves, siracha sauce (the jar of red pepper paste with garlics) instead of the pepper, 1/2 an envelope of french onion soup mix since we had no onions, and then I added in white sugar because we like it to taste a little on the sweet side. I usually don't like to alter recipes the first time I make them, but sadly I didn't have the things on hand to do so. Thanks for sharing a delicious recipe!!

Great dish! I made it to go with jerk chicken. Changed just a couple of things; I used canned kidney beans, two cloves of garlic and instead of fresh jalapeno, I used canned (chopped) and left it in the whole time. I also only used one 12oz can of coconut milk. Paired great with the jerk sauce! Will definitely be making again!

This was GREAT! I made it to accompany some turkey empanadas. The flavor of the rice and the filling from the empanada complement each other wonderfully! I used canned beans, and just a 12oz can of coconut milk, I also omitted the onions. Thanks for a great recipe!! I can't wait to pair it with other dishes!

This recipe is awesome. My husband and kids loved it. I added a few of my own spices, such as West Indian salt butter and creamed coconut in addition to the coconut milk. This tasted like I was at a restaurant! I made it with some stew turkey wings and it was a hit!

I used small red beans instead of kidney beans and increased to 2 peppers based on the other reviews. The next time I will increase the number of peppers even more and also increase the thyme. This is a very good recipe though and does taste very much like the peas and rice you get in the islands. Thanks for sharing.

Easy to make and the result was a very creamy rice dish. Everyone liked the hint of coconut flavor. I also had to add some salt and pepper to the finished product to meet our tastes. I'm sure I'll make it again. Thanks for posting.

now with 3 scotch bonnet peppers, which i did not remove, using small red beans instead of kidney beans and serving the rice with grilled steak instead of chicken, really made a wonderful difference, it is definitely a 5 star recipe and a keeper!!!
