This is a marvelous cake! I had actually been looking for a new "from scratch " recipe, because I really like to make cakes the old fashioned way. They just taste so much fresher. The directions were a little vague, but I just beat the egg whites and folded them in. And I mixed all the frosting ingredients and beat them until smooth. This is a very good tasting cake, and I will use this recipe a lot! Thank you Lali for posting this one!!

  1. Beat butter& shortening.
  2. add sugar.
  3. add yolks mix together.
  4. add flour alternate with buttermilk& beat.
  5. Add vanilla.
  6. fold in coconut, chopped nuts, fold in whites.
  7. grease three 9 inch pans, bake at 350F degrees for 23-25 minutes .
  8. -----Icing----------.
  9. Put on top of the 3 layers.
  10. Do Not Put On Sides.
  11. Top with nuts.
