This makes a great pie and was easy to put together. The whole house smelled wonderful while it was baking. Everyone enjoyed it with vanilla ice cream. For the crust, I used Gourmet Double Pie Crust.
I made this pie with 4 large Granny Smith apples and they filled a 9" skillet. I also used 1/2 cup of each sugar. 2 cups total of sugar seemed way too much for 4 apples. I would suggest you place skillet in a foil/parchment lined pan as juices will run over. It took 1 hour to bake. Someone suggested that I line the skillet with parchment paper to make clean-up easier. I will try that next time I make this pie. This is a messy pie, but so good.
To be sure, this made a very rich and flavorful dessert, but it was more of a cobbler than a pie. Pie crust has always been a challenge for me to make, but now that my inlaws are coming for Thanksgiving this year, I want to have apple pie mastered by the time they get here, which is why I'm starting now. This recipe is a good first step. I love the filling and the buttery brown sugar layer on the bottom, and it goes so well with a scoop of ice cream melting alongside. Thanks for sharing.
My aunt just made this pie, and no one could eat it!!! The brown sugar-butter sauce on the bottom, burned, and permeated the entire pie! It ruined the entire pie...I am gonna try it in my own over, as I suspect it may have
been her over...too hot!

Have made this twice. Not bad.
Even though I used a store bought pie crust this turned out good. Love the idea of cooking it with a brown sugar sauce on the bottom. DH said it was too sweet so I may cut down on sugar, but daughter devoured it. A diffent keeper thank you
This was awesome! My DH said it was one of the best apple pies he has ever eaten! This will be my permanent apple pie recipe from now on....
This was a great easy recipe. The family loved it and fought over the last piece. It even tasted good cold.
Super dessert! I used 4 1/2 big Granny Smith apples & ready made refrigerated pie crusts. It went together easily & quickly. My guests thought I'd worked for hours on this gem. ;-) Thanks!
