- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 cups buttermilk
directions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Mix together all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- Add buttermilk and mix gently. Transfer dough to a floured surface, fold the dough together 4 to 5 times and then form a loaf about 8 or 9 inches in diameter.
- Grease a 2 x 10-inch round cake pan and place the dough in the pan. Make a cross on the top with a knife.
- Bake 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 400 degrees and bake another 20 to 25 minutes.
- Remove from pan and cool before cutting.
