Oh the onions make it! I cut back on the butter (substantially -- gotta watch my fats), but I didn't miss it one bit with the sweet rutabagas. Why does something that look so bad taste so good? Excellent side dish, I'll do it again and again. Bergy, perfect!

I'm one of these odd guys who does like rutabagas!! This was really good. A nice change from the traditional turnip and carrot dish. Next time I'll add even more onions. Thanks again Bergy.

Used swedes instead. I grew them for the first time, not even knowing if I liked them, then looked for recipes to use them up. Loved this one - will definitely use it again. Onions add a lovely flavour and I did use the stated quantity of butter. Can't wait for next season to grow some more.

I used half rutabagas and half potatoes. I really like the caramelized onions in this. I might add some garlic next time.

Bergy, you really know how to make good food better! This was so good that I passed it off as new flavored mashed potatoes to some little ones...as long as they didn't know what it was, they ate it! I know it's cruel, but... I also lightened up on the butter, the caramelized onions pick up most of the flavor. Wonderful!

Yummy ! I want to run out and buy another turnip to make this again. I tasted it and loved it but then I added some leftover crumbled up bacon and it was unreal as well....

This dish was so yummy! Next time I will try to cut out some of the butter, just to save on the fat content ... My husband, who kept saying he wasn't going to have any because he didn't like rutabagas/turnips, went back for seconds. This is a keeper. Will make again. Thanks for sharing!

great combo, the onions with the rutabagas. i scaled this down for a solo portion, and added a sprinkle of real bacon bits on top. simple and perfect, and lo carb!

Who would have ever thought that rutabagas and turnips would taste so good?! I used a combination of both because that is what I received in my produce box from some local farmers. Everyone kept going back for seconds. I may try to cut back on the amount of butter and oil. It certainly tasted good, but seemed to be a lot.

Wow, so wonderful! I made the mash with one rutabaga and one parsnip, and lots of carmelized onions. It was a hit and every morsel was gobbled up.

Wonderful! I had never had or prepared turnips before in my life. Tried this recipe because of the rating and we were not disappointed!! I am now a huge turnip fan!

Made this recipe for our Thanksgiving dinner. I used one rutabaga and one squash. I also added a little brown sugar & 3 pieces of crispy bacon crumbled. Added the caramelized onions & put in a casserole dish ahead of time and re-heated as the turkey was being carved. Everyone loved it! Thanks.

This is wonderful! Used turnips instead, and much less fat than called for. My 6 year old could be heard asking for more, and my picky 8 year old ate them without any issue (though he didn't want more). An interesting texture, plus the yummy onions.

I'd never had rutabagas before, but when I saw it was named "Irish Rutabagas" I had to try it, since I am Irish. This dish was GREAT. The whole family loved it; it was creamy and buttery with just a little tang from the rutabagas. The only mistake I made was that since the recipe didn't specify how to cut the onions, I just cut them into rings. When I mixed the onions into the rutabaga mix, I realized I should have chopped them. Thank you, Bergy, for this delicious recipe!

Excellent! I also cut way back on the butter and only used a bit of non-stick spray for the onions, and some chicken broth for liquid. Delicious, thank you!
