I grew up on this dish and didn't know anyone else liked it. But, I did a web search and found many people had similar experiences.
- 1⁄4 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can tomato soup
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 8 ounces spaghetti
- 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- Brown beef with onion.
- Add Soups and spices.
- Simmer covered for 45 Minutes.
- Cook pasta while the sauce simmers.
- Stir pasta in to sauce and add half the cheese.
- Serve with remaining cheese on top.
Really yummy family pasta dish, after step 5 on this I put it into a baking dish and topped with the remaining Parmesan cheese and baked for about 10 - 15 minutes. Served it with some of Erins Blue Cheese Crostini (yummy too) and a green salad. Thanks for posting =)
Just a couple days ago I called my Mother and asked her if she still had the Irish Italian Spaghetti recipe we grew up on. As a single Mother of 5 in the 1960's she had to make something from nothing very often. Well, she still had the recipe. And to day, on a whim, I looked on 'Zaar to see if anyone else posted it. To my surprise it was already posted. Now I don't have to post mine and I can just get on with eating it again. Thanks for the memory. By the way, our recipe was double yours and used a full pound of burger. But of course there were 5 hungry kids to feed.
I grew up with the same stuff! My mom used slightly different proportions/spices though: 1 lb ground beef 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup 1 can Tomato soup 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp oregano 1/2 tsp Tabasco sauce 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp ground black pepper Exact same cooking instructions, though. =)
