  1. Lovely comforting food

  2. Sounds great. I'd add some diced celery.

  3. Made this stew .....minus the guiness and turnips and it's a delicious, filling meal!! I made it for St. Patrick's Day along with Impossible Beer Bread. Great for dipping in the yummy gravy!!

  4. Great for the slow cooker. As other reviewers have said, the quantities for the liquids in the recipe are a bit light. I eneded up using 2 cups of Guinness and probably 2 to 3 cups of beef stock so that everything was covered in the crock pot. As I serve it on mashed potatoes, I didn't use potatoes in the actual recipe but used a turnip, a swede, a parsnip, a sweet potato and about 4 medium carrots. Next time I'll add a bay leaf or two as my good friend and chef Browndog said that this would take any acidity out that may come from the stout. Thanks for posting - loved it!

  5. I can not believe I haven't reviewed this yet. I have made this several times and each and every time its fantastic. I use turnips, parsnips, carrots, potatoes and have used sweet potato in it before. No matter what the combo its lovely. My husband thanks you for this recipe. For myself this is the recipe that has gotten me to actually enjoy stew.
