Always loved this recipe with a spoonful of sour cream mixed in the mash. Yummy
We really liked the flavor of this! I used smoked ham lunch meat, and since I misunderstood the directions, I ended up frying the ham in 5 tsp of butter as well as putting 5 tsp in the mashed potatoes. We had a very fattening version! It took awhile to get all the water out of the ham enough to crisp it up, but it was worth it. It almost tasted like bacon, so my son loved that part best. I noticed the directions call for garlic powder, but it isn't in the ingredient list. I put in about 1/4 tsp garlic powder in addition to the other ingredients, and it was the right amount of flavor. I think I would bake it instead of broiling since that left the cheddar looking hard and dried out.
This was really good. I didn't use deli ham, I used leftover ham, and fried it. DH LOVED it! My picky kids ate it. This is a great meal when you have leftovers to use up. Thanks!
My Husband gave this 4 stars, which is great, because he always views new recipes somewhat suspiciously! I stirred the grated Parmesan right into the potatoes. Very good!
This was just ok, pretty bland. It was very easy. I think I will try it with a veggie (broc., corn) mixed in with the ham and add sauce. Then maybe put the potatoes on top with the cheese covering this. Kind of like a shepard pie variation.
DGD #1 is a picky eater and DGD #2 is starting to refuse babyfood and their mom is at her wits end. So... I prepared this for the girls for dinner this evening (actually DGD #1 "helped"). I tweaked the recipe by stirring the shredded ham and cheese into the potatoes w/ a hand mixer to shred the meat even more. It was pretty tasty and was enjoyed by both babies... tho they didn't eat as much as I had hoped. However, it was a new food and I thought they did pretty well. I'm pleased they were willing to try it... which bodes well for future "baby gourmet" endeavors! Thanks for sharing this recipe... I've got a few ideas for changing it up some to make a variety of dishes.
I was happy to find this recipe for one of those I-don't-feel-like-cooking nights. This took just a few minutes to put together, and the end result was good. I added chopped onion and sauted it with the ham. My husband and I were both surprised at how good this was- we expected it to be more bland, but the seasoning in the potatoes was just right. I'll make this again- thanks!
