  1. I made a single serving of this in the microwave today, but I am not going to rate it because I changed it quite a bit. I used 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup applesauce, a dash of cinnamon, and about a tablespoon of brown sugar. I mashed half a banana to mix into the oatmeal and cut the other half in slices to put on top. I really enjoyed it, and I really like how the applesauce helps all the other flavors blend together. I think the concept would work well with other fruits too, or even multiple fruits in the same oatmeal. Thanks!

  2. This was a nice change from regular banana oatmeal. I too used milk (skim), rolled oats & unsweetened applesuace. I used more cinnamon (my favorite!) & microwaved it all for 1 1/2 min, then topped with a Splenda pkt. I used bananas for my fruit :-). Thank u for sharing; it was fun to try!

  3. I tried this today and it wasn't bad. I used a banana and half raisins and half Craisins, and overall, the taste was pretty good. The only issue I had was that the texture of the oatmeal was very watery, more like a soup than oatmeal. Also, the flavor of the applesauce (I used unsweetened) was a little too strong for my taste. A good idea, but I don't think I will be trying it again. Thank you for posting it, though!

  4. Sometimes it's a mistake not to eat breakfast in the morning. Today it wasn't. This recipe posted about an hour ago to the site. I had every ingredient availabe here in the office except for the banana, which I quickly zipped out to the corner grocery and bought some. The only change I made was to use soy milk instead of the water. The oatmeal was creamy and delicious, and the applesauce and fruit gave it a wonderful sweetness and texture. So quick and easy to make, so yummy too!

I've recently completed my undergrad degree, and I'm taking some time off before returning to grad school. I've done lots of cooking since graduating, and I continue to collect more recipes than I could ever possibly make. I'm a vegetarian, and I try to make environmentally sustainable and socially conscious food choices, using local, organic, and fair trade products whenever possible. I believe that any food experience should be enjoyed holistically, with appreciation for the flavour, texture, smell, and appearance of a dish, and consideration for where the ingredients have come from and the processes they've undergone before arriving in my kitchen. I discovered earlier this year that I have Celiac Disease and a dairy intolerance, so I'm learning new ways to cook and eat in a world full of wheat and dairy. A sad goodbye to sandwiches, pizza, beer, and cinnamon buns.
