Been drinking Chai quite a bit for the last couple of weeks because of being sick...got tired of paying $6 or more for mix that made no more then 8 cups, made this for around $12 (had some ingredients left over) and its Delicious! Did add the nutmeg and allspice, but left out the pepper (not a big fan of pepper). May try some of the other additions as well (Mocha Chai? Sounds Delicious)
Love Love Love this mix! I left out the vanilla creamer and added a bit more of the dry milk and regular non dairy creamer. Vanilla was with the sugar as suggested. No cardamom, to expensive, but I am on the look out for some lower cost cardamom. I had some trouble with the mix not being ground fine enough, so next time it will go into the blender instead of the food processor.
This was very good but too sweet for me. Even with leaving 1/2 cup sugar out and adding an extra 1/2 cup of tea! I'll leave even more sugar out next time and maybe add more milk powder and creamer. I got lucky and was able to get a few tsp of bulk organic cardamom from my local health food store for about $1!!! I also saw a lot of the reviewers complained of the drink being gritty so I pulverized it in my blender to a fine powder.
I love chai tea - as soon as I saw this recipe I had to try it. I brought it into work and got so much interest I decided to use this recipe for Xmas gifts for about 15 friends and family. I believe they all liked it, but I Know the chai tea lovers certainly did. Because I've made it so many times I can tell you its okay to fudge the amounts a little (ex: 2 cups sugar, 2 cups french vanilla non-dairy powder instead of 1 cup of regular) I ran out of cardamom at one point and sub'd nutmeg. I liked it, so I kept that batch for myself but it lacked that "something" I was used to. Overall I LOVE this recipe. Its what gets me through work!
I just made this Chai Tea and I liked it.... I am not much of a tea lover but I am willing to try anything at least once. I did not add the cardamom, since I did not want to spend $10 on an experiment. I used nutmeg instead. I am wondering how much it affects the flavor... once I finish this batch I will consider purchasing it. Thanks for the recipe!
My DD said this was the best Chai Tea EVER! I made this for a stocking stuffer for St. Nick's night. Raves!!!
We ( a 4 year old; a 2 year old and I - hubby would like it...If I'd make it for him ;). The tea strainer idea has got to be great. (The only one I have is in a genie lamp...need to get one to try it.) All in all, good flavor, although I use 3 T for me and less for the children. It is yummy...in fact, I think I'll go make some right now.
This easily competes with store bought...actually it's better cause you can customize to your own tastes!! Thanks for saving me tons of moolah :)
LOVE IT! I used to buy a chai mix from Trader Joes, but we moved to Maine which doesn't have 1. This is even better. I make it with all the extra spices listed at the top, and because I can't find the non-dairy creamer without sodium caseinate (MSG), I substitute dry milk powder. (For purists, even dry milk is naturally high in glutamates, but that doesn't seem quite as bad to me. ;-)
I just made this ... was nervous because I"m really picky. I tasted it and YUM! This is really good. I don't need to pay $3.50 at Paneras for a good cup of chai tea. Thanks for the recipe!
