Somebody just emailed this to me and I can't wait to try it out!! How fun for a family gathering!! The ingredients, other than the eggs, are prepared beforehand, with guests adding whatever they would like. The possibities are endless!! Prep time includes time to prepare a variety of ingredients from which guests can choose. Use two large or extra-large eggs per omelet
- 2 eggs
- 1⁄2 cup cheese, shredded
- 1⁄4 cup tomatoes, chopped
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1⁄2 cup cooked ham, chopped
- For each omelet, have each guest write his or her name on a large or extra large Ziplock freezer bag with a permanent marker. Then, each person cracks two eggs into his bag. Zip the bag and shake to "stir" the eggs.
- Each guest then adds ingredients to taste, again stirring to blend well.
- Drop up to rolling, boiling water for 13 minutes.
- The directions say you can usually cook up to six or eight at a time in a large pot.
- The directions continue, "Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.".
I have made this on many occasions lately. I do it a bit differently. I mix up shredded cheese, green onion, ham, mustard and marmalade in a bowl then evenly distribute this into the bags. (You can let your imagination run wild and add anything from soup to nuts.) I then beat two eggs in a bowl and pour them into the bag and seal the bag. I do this the day before needing them. When needed I cook in boiling water for 13 minutes. Everyone gets the same omelet but it saves a lot of time and mess and no one has ever complained. It is a terrific recipe for a brunch. I serve it with scalloped potatoes and roasted squash and minted peas. Great brunch. Hope lots of people try it.
