What can I say about this pie other than delicious? I can say fast, and I can say easy, lol! With the streusel topping it's like a great apple crisp. I used granny smith apples and they held up perfectly. Oh! My only mistake was forgetting to put a pan covered in foil on the lower oven rack. Oh, what a mess in the bottom of the oven, lol! But after tasting the pie, the mess didn't matter. Thanks for a great recipe, Mirj!

This a very good recipe. It isn't gourmet like stated but it tastes as though it is. I used 4 large Granny Smith apples and continued with the recipe. The pie was cooked in my oven after 55 minutes. We all enjoyed this dessert; my husband even thought that it reminded him of his mother's apple pie. Thanks for posting Mirj.

Simply delicious! I made this at Thanksgiving using six Granny Smith apples. I made it the day before and DH was complaining he had to wait a day to eat it. I sent the recipe home with some of the guests and I will be making this again. You could say this is my new favourite dessert to make. It doesn't get any easier.

If that isn't gourmet, then nothing is! Everyone who tried it went nuts. I did have to bake 80-90 min. though to get the bottom to come out right. DAVE

Wow, this was absolutely delicious! You may not want to call it "gourmet", but I'd certainly be pleased to serve this for dessert at a dinner party. The directions are easy to follow and, other than the time it took to prepare the apples, it came together quickly. I used 6 rather large macintosh apples, which worked out to be exactly 6 cups of sliced apples. I prepared this in my large deep-dish Pyrex glass pie plate, which worked well and I had no spillover; 65 minutes in the oven and it was done to perfection. The only change I made (other than to use Penzey's apple pie spice instead of the cinnamon and nutmeg) was to omit the nuts in the streusel (DS hates nuts, y'see) and substitute 1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut. Terrific! Thanks for posting, Mirj; I'll be making this dessert often.

I got this recipe from a 82 yr old lady years ago but lost it (she has an apple tree in her yard which I got apples from) and she gave me this exact recipe. This is the BEST french apple pie you will ever have. Thanks for posting, I'm sooooo glad to have it back!!!! Rivacat

Wow! This was so good. There was a crazy apple pie recipe I used to make years ago with Bisquick and thought this was it, turns out it's nothing like that recipe, it was 100% better! This pie was good the first night but even better the second day! My better half kept telling the kids to stay away and that it was no good so he could eat it all! They knew better and enjoyed it too! Thanks again for a delicious recipe! Italianmomof2

This turned out great considering I had to bake it in my toaster oven. I would consider it a french apple pie custard b/c of the egg. Using egg kind of scared me at first but it holds it up nicely and gives a great flavor. I am also one who prefers a pie without crust so I liked it alot! I made it without nuts and it was great

Turned out great for me. Used a whole grain baking mix and increased the butter a bit to compensate. Had some wonderful Golden Delicious apples that stayed firm. That the bottom crust is not like a regular pastry is not an issue for me.
