I love this dish. I did make a few changes though. I added celery, green onions, garlic & pepper. I also sprinkled the cheddar cheese over the meat mixture before pouring the bisquick mixture on top. It ends up on top of the pie in the end.
My mom passed this recipe on to me. I've had it for over 20 years. It does taste great and it's one of the few meals I can honestly say tastes even better when reheated.
This is such a super easy recipe and both my hubby and I love it! Instead of using a pie plate, I just use a casserole dish. I have to bake it about 15 minutes longer that way, but everyone loves the "deep dish" style. I also put a bottom "crust" on the pie by pouring a layer of the batter in the bottom of dish, and letting it bake for a few minutes (just enough to get a little density) before I pour the meat in.
I grew up on this one. My husband had never heard of it. Now it makes a rotation in my 2 week menu. I use onion powder seasoned into my meat instead of onions. We like the flavor but not the texture. I always use more cheese b/c we are cheese heads. We eat ours with Ranch dressing. My daughter loves it too.
I found this recipe in another book, where they topped the filling with 2 tomatoes sliced and then sprinkled with the cheese.
I love making this with taco seasoning in the browned beef. Way to yummy! Top with salsa, sour cream, lettuce and whatever you like. You can't get enough.
This is good, but a little bland. Bet 99.8 per cent of kids will think it is great.

Leftovers reheated are better to me than the pie right ouf of the oven.
This was pretty good! My husband and I made this together last night in the middle of painting. Not only was it easy, it was really easy. We did add a lot more pepper than what it called for.
OK, so I tried this recipe with pancake mix and mozerella cheese (didn't have Bisquick or cheddar). Don't do it. Its not terrible but lacks flavor in a big way. Otherwise seems like a great recipe that I will try w/ the RIGHT ingredients next time!
