Not the same as Ham N Goody's. They were to cake like. Ham N Goody's is a thin, dense cookie with a little saltiness to it. The baking soda and baking powder made them bitter and rise to much.
Okay, but not even close to the same texture or flavor as Ham 'N Goody's lemon cookies. Too tart & cake-like for me & I even used less lemon juice than the recipe called for.
These are lovely cookies! They melt in your mouth and have a great lemony taste. Thanks for the recipe!
After testing this recipe against about four other cookie recipes, I chose it to give to my family as Christmas presents. I made about ten dozen of them in two days. I am sick of them now :). But I will say, they were pretty easy to make and tasted good. They were also very cheap for me to make since I had pretty much everything already on hand to make them. I think they cost about 5 cents a cookie to make. And, once I got the hang of the recipe, I was able to make them very quickly. The only modification I made was to roll the dough into balls which I then rolled in sugar and flattened into discs. I found this to be much easier than rolling the dough out. I am curious to see what they would taste like if the cookie dough was modified and orange juice was used in the glaze instead of lemon. I definitely plan to try that out sometime. I'll let you know how it works!
Barb... I have been searching everywhere for this recipe. With the economy in such sad shape, Ham 'N' Goodys cookies are just a bit too pricey for me and I am in serious withdrawal! Thanks so much for finding & posting it!
These were so good we ate a dozen and a half before I could ice them! Thanks, Barb for posting. I used fresh lemon juice because I didn't have the reconstituted and added a teaspoon of grated lemon zest . . . LEMONY!
