Iced Honey Green Tea

"Iced green tea is great in the summer -- it's cool, it's got that slight bitter edge, and it's full of healthy antioxidants. You can keep this in a pitcher in the refrigerator and drink it whenever you need something to help you cool down. I make it with decaffeinated green tea so I don't get all wired. I have also made it using "green tea with mint" and that was excellent chilled. This proportion assumes you are going to pour it over ice; you could probably water it down a bit if you are going to drink it without ice. I never sweeten my green tea, so I can't tell you how much honey or sweetener to use, but that's a matter of personal taste anyway. I got this idea from a box of Celestial Seasonings brand green tea."

  1. I hear it's still cold and snowy in other parts of the USA. A sippy to those unfortunates that are being gypped out of spring.

  2. Although I modified it quite a bit, I still needed someone to tell me how to make it, and this is definitely the way to go! Used 6 cups of water total, 4 green tea bags, 2 chai tea bags, 3 splenda packets and 2 tablespoons of honey. MMMMMMMM. Thanks! Been hitting the spot all week!

  3. Made a double batch with Jasmine tea. This makes a nice light & refreshing tea. We like ours unsweetened to enjoy the full tea flavor.

  4. Loved this and it is a nice change from the usual I used Celestial Seasonings green tea bags and added 1/4 cup of our local honey to the hot tea. Wonderful stuff - Thanks !

  5. I decided I needed to try something like this before the ladies in the Healthy For The Holidays Challenge find out how much diet soda I am drinking and plan an intervention! I haven't had green tea in a while but this sounded good. I followed your recipe fully though I added a generous shake of splenda as I like my teas sweet. I found that it was more watered down then I would have liked. Next time I'll use 2 more tea bags. But a nicely flavored drink. Thanks, nose!

I live in Los Angeles, and there are really great farmer's markets here, and corner stores featuring foods of many nations. I try to take advantage of these resources by using fresh seasonal produce and trying foods from different cultures. I don't exactly have the problem of not being able to find exotic ingredients; more often, I see things in the local stores (lotus root! passionfruit! chayote!) that turn out to be delicious when I finally learn how to prepare them. Interested in expanding my repertoire of techniques and cuisines, I finally took up my sister - Recipezaar member Roosie - on her recommendation to visit this site. I hear our parents use it too sometimes, but they don't seem to have figured out how to write reviews. My culinary pet peeve is when people stir rice while it's cooking, thereby making it gummy.
