    Posted for the Zaar World Tour 2006-Syria. From "The Best of International Cooking" cookbook. Even though the title says that this is a salad, it is actually a dessert. If you prefer a less sweet dessert, add the juice of one lemon. I haven't made this recipe, but I love dried fruit and nuts and this sounds delicious. Note: prep time does NOT include refrigeration time, so be sure to allow extra time for required refrigeration.

      In a medium bowl, cover dried fruits with cold water. Cover and refrigerate 24 hours; drain well.

      In a large bowl, combine drained fruit and nuts.
    3. 3
      In a small bowl, combine cardamom, cinnamon, grenadine and rose water; pour over fruit and nuts. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.

      To serve, stir in ice cubes.

      I made a half-batch of this and it is pretty wonderful stuff. I didn't stir in ice cubes to serve this, but stirred in some greek yoghurt instead for a different, but delicious treat. The rose water makes this extra-special. Thanks!

      What a beautiful way to start the day! I bet shaped ice-cubes would be very pretty in this... I on the other hand only had LARGE cubes! It was still very pretty and had a nice flavor with the combination of the grenadine and rose water. I added the water and waited a few hours before adding the rose water and grendadine and let the whole thing sit overnight. I think I will thicken up the syrup a bit with cornstarch and serve it with vanilla ice-cream for dessert! Made for ZWT6 by an UNruly Under the INfluence!

      What a wonderful dried fruit medley! It is made special with rose water, grenadine and other arabic flavors. I did not use the raisins or all the nuts, because I didn't have them, and it was fine. Next time I think I will add the grenadine, rosewater, caramom and cinnamon to the fruits before soaking and only add water enough to almost cover the fruits. That way I think the fruits would absorb more flavors to them and I wouldn't have to dispose of the fruity syrup that the fruits extract, but just leave it in the salad. Oh, and I did not use any ice cubes, since we ate it straight out of fridge. That was chilled enough now that it is -15C outside.
