Well, I'll just say that I was glad I read some reviews before attempting this one! I've not seen the end result, as they were just placed in the freezer moments ago, but not only did I grease the trays, I ALSO floured them (as suggested by another reviewer). I'll let you know how they turn out!
These are really nice, and they store beautifully in the freezer. If you put them in a plastic bag, separate them into rows, and fold the bag to create a 'sleeve' of eight or so cubes together. They may stick together a bit, but can be easily separated when you need them. If you just dump a bunch into a single bag, they will turn into an intractable lump in the freezer.
Stored this way, they work just like the ones you buy at the store.
Great recipe, love that I can make separately and store in freezer as needed. I did find the total time to be longer than 2 hours however that could be because my refrigerator is from 1953. Will definitely use this again!
I am so glad you included Step 5! this step is so often omitted, even in other recipes. And especially by teenagers. It really makes a difference in how things taste. And in the temperment of the Mom!! Love this recipe.
How wonderful, I remember those days when 'the little darlings' thought the fairies replenished the ice trays in the middle of the night
This recipe didn't turn out well for me. The frozen meats & veggies kept falling down onto trays, knocking them and sending water all over inside of freezer. The weight of the small bag of ice I bought, however, was able to hold its own in my stuffed freezer. This is probably a good recipe for bachelors who only have beer, a styrofoam container of leftover mysterious, moldy take-out in fridge and 1 tv dinner in freezer. ;-)
Thanks Chrissy and thanks to Elsie for taking the opportunity to make a great point. I really don't appreciate people not following the recipe than grading a recipe they never tried. Well crafted my dear! :)
Brilliant !! I raised 3 boys and a husband and actually wept with relief when the fridge with the ice maker was installed. Thank you for the memories.
I thought - what the heck? But this is too funny, I had a great laugh and also laughed at all the reviews, read so many of them out loud that my DH begged me to stop! Also loved the posted picture!
I have been searchng for the perfect ice cube recipe for years for my family. This one comes out perfect every time. Thank you!
