Hush Puppies

"This recipe is from my mother-in-law. I had never eaten homemade hushpuppes until I met her. They are really good. We always have them when we have a fish fry. I went ahead and listed the cornmeal she used to use but it is not made anymore so I will continue to look for another brand that is good. If you know of a great brand, please write a note in the comment field. Thanks! Enjoy!"

directions

  • Combine ingredients in bowl. The batter should not fall of the spoon.
  • Place spoonfuls (can roll in ball if prefer) of dough in deep fryer.
  • Deep fry until golden brown.
  • **You can substitute the buttermilk for regular milk and a touch of lemon juice if you do not have any buttermilk. However, the buttermilk is worth it in the recipe.

RECIPE SUBMITTED BY

I am married to a great husband. We do not have any kids yet but have 1 cat and 1 dog. I am a first grade teacher and absoutely love it! I do not really enjoy the process of cooking but I enjoy the finished product so I do it and try to make new and interesting dishes. When I find a recipe I like, it normally becomes part of the dinner rotation. I tend to be pretty picky about the way I cook and the ingredients and tend to find that most people enjoy my recipes and cooking. I am a devoted by the recipe cooker but have gotten much better about adding something new to the recipe the longer that I have been married and the more I have practiced cooking. I hope you enjoy my recipes too.
