I found this recipe in a book on how to save money. I no longer have the book, but have used this inexpensive spaghetti supper many times over the past 30 years because it is simple but very good.

I made this for dinner this evening (actually, I made the sauce yesterday, but served it tonight). It was enjoyed by all who ate. I do think it was a little on the 'runny' side... but maybe I should have simmered it longer during the prep. (I thought by sitting in the fridge over-night that it would have thickened). I made as directed, and it was quite good. I like the flavor that the basil added, but it should have a bit more of something added (just not sure of what... maybe more garlic and oregano). Served over spaghetti along with garlic bread and salad. I will definately try this recipe again. Thank you for posting a nice "homemade meat sauce". (Made for PAC - Spring 2013)

  1. Lightly brown beef, onion and garlic; drain fat.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  3. Simmer, uncovered, one hour.
  4. Serve over hot spaghetti.
