I was once married to a Hungarian-his mum was THE best cook I've ever known! This came mightly close to her cucumber salad so I enjoyed it very, very much. I made a quarter of the recipe as a small side for two of us. I shaved the cuc on my mandolin, then gave it a bit of a squeeze to get rid of some of the excess juice. Shall definately make this again.

I have been making this dish for years, let it sit in the fridge overnight and the flavor will only get better.

We have been eating a lot of cucumbers lately so I have been tyring different recipes. I followed the recipe exactly as written but for us the vinegar was too overpowering or maybe there just wasn't enough sugar to balance it out. Ours were also really watery.

This is fantastic! It was so very fast to put together. We tasted it and immediately I knew we were in trouble. It was hard to stop sampling it long enough to wait for dinner! But we did manage to save it for our meal. I noticed one difference from eating it immediately and eating it again after a few hours. The garlic mellowed a bit. My clove was rather large and it had a bit of a bite but believe me, not a bite that makes it bad, just might have been a bit strong for some mouths. After it set for a while that bite was gone. I did add the sugar and it set off the vinegar nicely. I too, only wish I had more cucumbers on hand when I made this. I thought I might have a problem with this thinning out as I had pealed my cucumbers, but I did not. I look forward to making this again and have been pondering what else would go well in this mix. Wonderful! Thanks!

My Mother and Grandmother have been making these since I can remember! I make them now too but usually leave the sugar out. These are so good and refreshing! Thanks for sharing a great recipe!

This recipe takes me back to my childhood, because my grandma used to make something very similar to this. I believe that the sour cream mixture is supposed to turn into a runny, milky type of sauce as it sits, and I prefer it that way to having it fresh. This is also good with minced onion.

Ate this for lunch today with a grilled sandwich & watermelon. Great meal! Since DH and I have aging taste buds, I did add a little extra salt and sugar. I am adding onion and fresh dill to leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Love these cucumbers.

This is delicious anytime. I never had the recipe for this. It was a little of this and that. I add 1 more clove of garlic, minced finely and leave our the surgar. Either ways it's a winner!
