C. D. was the father of the famous Langhorne sisters, including Nancy, Lady Astor. He contributed this to a cookbook called "Key to the Pantry" which was published in Danvllle, VA in 1898. Taken from "Virginia Cookery Past and Present" Cooking time is a guess on my part.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Take a cabbage, wash well, and cut up into pieces about the size of your hand.
  2. Put them into the boiling water, or maybe a little more if your cabbage is a big one, along with 5-6 slices bacon.
  3. Add a pod of red pepper, cover, and cook slowly until done.
  4. This will never disagree with you.
