Hot Popplers

"I modified a hush puppy type recipe that didn't have enough flavor, and this is what I got. They reminded me of Popplers from Futurama so, I named them such. =D"

• Ingredients: 9
• Serves: 16

ingredients

• 1 cup flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
• 1 beaten egg
• 1⁄4 cup tomato juice
• 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
• 1⁄2 cup minced onion
• 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
• oil (for deep frying)

directions

1. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.
2. Add egg, juice and pepper.
3. Stir in onions and cheese.
4. Drop by teaspoonsful into hot (350F) oil.
5. Fry until golden brown.
6. Drain well on paper towels.

Wow these are great, I really loved the cheesyness and they were so crispy. A great appetiser they would be nice with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. Next time I will put a bit more cayenne in them as I think mine were quite mild and DH likes them hot!!! Thank you for a great recipe I will be making them again. Made for PAC Spring 2010
